Prefontaine Classic

The Diamond League track meet at Hayward Field named for runner Steve Prefontaine.

The first Pre Classic was held in 1975, six days after the Oregon Track Club renamed the meet that was to be the Bowerman Classic, following Steve Prefontaine’s death on May 30. Its signature race is the Bowerman Mile.
