Hayward Field is named for coach Bill Hayward, who led the Ducks from 1904 to 1947. It was entirely rebuilt in 2018-20, with alumnus Phil Knight as the main donor, and has hosted the Olympic trials in 1972, 1976, 1980, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. (Wikipedia)

Bill Bowerman shook hands with Phil Knight on the business that became Nike in 1964, and around 1970 wrecked his wife’s waffle iron testing a rubber sole. (Wikipedia) Steve Prefontaine set American records from 2,000 to 10,000 meters before his death in 1975, and Pre’s Rock on Skyline Boulevard marks the place. (Wikipedia)

The Prefontaine Classic, a Diamond League meet, has carried his name since 1975. (Wikipedia)
